Sabra-Mansuriyya was a Fatimid capital founded by Caliph al-Mansur after the defeat of Abu Yazid's revolt. Built east of Kayrawan and completed in 949, it became the residence of al-Mansur's successors until al-Mu'izz left it permanently for Egypt in 973. The city represented the dynasty's renewed authority after the most serious internal crisis of its North African period.

The Story
After defeating Abu Yazid's revolt, the Fatimid caliph al-Mansur founded a new capital east of Kayrawan. The city was named Sabra-Mansuriyya and was completed in 337/949. Its foundation followed the dynasty's recovery from a rebellion that had brought al-Mahdiyya and Fatimid rule close to collapse.
Sabra-Mansuriyya served as the political residence of al-Mansur's successors during the later North African phase of Fatimid history. Its location near Kayrawan placed the court close to the principal urban center of Ifriqiya while providing a distinct dynastic seat. The city thus embodied the reconstruction of caliphal power after the Kharijite challenge.
The capital remained in use until 362/973. In that year al-Mu'izz, described as the last of the North African Fatimids, left Sabra-Mansuriyya definitively for Egypt. The move marked the transfer of the dynasty's center of gravity from Ifriqiya to the eastern Mediterranean world.
