Mansa Maghā II was a ruler in the later succession sequence of Mali. The account states that Mārī-Djāta II restored the house of Mansa Mūsā to the throne, after which Mārī-Djāta II’s son Mūsā became a weak nominal ruler. A later genealogical chart lists Mansa Maghā II as a ruler after Mārī-Djāta II and Mūsā, but the prose provides only limited information about his reign and its political circumstances.

Mansa Maghā II appears after the restoration of Mansa Mūsā’s dynastic house. The surrounding succession was marked by weak royal authority and strong court officials: Mārī-Djāta II was described as despotic, while his son Mūsā remained largely absent from government and left power in the hands of his chief minister.
The genealogical chart places Mansa Maghā II after Mūsā and Mārī-Djāta II. The prose fragment visible on the following page begins by stating that Mansa Maghā II reigned only for a year and was probably, like his brother Mūsā, controlled by court officers.
