Nqaba’s Msene Nguni were a migrating Nguni polity that moved from southern Mozambique into the region of present-day Zimbabwe and toward the Lozi country. They participated in the wider dispersal of Ndwandwe splinters, fought Zwangendaba’s Jere Nguni, and later attacked Sebetwane’s Kololo settlement near the Zambezi. Their defeat by the Kololo led to their dispersal and the death of Nqaba.

The Msene Nguni emerged from the dispersal of the Ndwandwe confederacy. Led by Nqaba, also written Nxaba, they moved from Mozambique into the area of present-day Zimbabwe. Their campaigns formed part of the broader upheavals caused by migrating Nguni groups seeking new territories and confronting established states and communities.
Nqaba’s forces briefly clashed with Zwangendaba’s Jere Nguni and gained the upper hand. They then moved westward toward the country of the Lozi. Their movement brought them into direct conflict with Sebetwane’s Kololo, who had established themselves near the Zambezi and Kafue rivers after a long migration.
In the battle against Sebetwane’s Kololo, the Msene Nguni were defeated and dispersed. Nqaba was slain, ending the movement’s attempt to establish itself in the Lozi region. The episode illustrates the competition among migrant Nguni polities and the military pressures surrounding the formation of new states.
