Arab-Faqih appears in the passage as the scribe of Ahmad Gran and as the author of a detailed chronicle concerning the Muslim invasion of Ethiopia. Written in 1543, his account provides the Muslim side of a conflict otherwise also documented through Ethiopian and Portuguese testimony. His position close to Gran gives the narrative a distinctive political and historical perspective.

The chronicle is significant because it can be read against the Royal Chronicle of Emperor Lebna Dengel, written in Ge’ez from the Ethiopian viewpoint. Portuguese records from eyewitnesses add a third category of evidence. Together, these materials allow the invasion to be studied through different affiliations and documentary traditions.

Arab-Faqih’s role illustrates the importance of identifying not only what a source records, but also who produced it and within which political setting. His chronicle is therefore both a narrative of the invasion and a testimony shaped by association with Ahmad Gran.
